The given task
The cosmetic industry and several applications in medical research rely on in-vivo chemiluminescence measurements on human skin. Provoked light emissions are very weak but spectrally valuable. Therefore quantitative analysis is quite complex. Measurement sessions have to be managed cost-effectively and be reproducible with easy-to-use measurement equipment.
The solution
SRUPE-DS: Spectrally Resolved Ultra-weak Photon Emission Detection System
SRUPE-DS is designed to detect ultra-weak photon emission from a surface i.e. human skin. The modular construction of SRUPE-DS offers an application-oriented configuration of the system.
The patented design of the efficient optical coupling transfers emitted photons from the sample to the detector by liquid light guides. A highly-sensitive 2-inch photomultiplier is integrated in a Peltier-cooled sampling head. To block extremely high light levels during the excitation phase, a fast & large shutter (> 8 OD) is used.
A six-segment filter wheel can be used either for spectral resolution or for enhancing the signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) by means of chopping function. The measurement process includes excitation and simultaneous acquisition of up to six data curves with one measurement and is fully programmable with easy-to-use Windows software. The customized filters are available with different characteristics.
