Early Fire Detection in Residual Waste Incineration Plants

Early fire detection in the collecting tank of a waste incineration plant requires highly accurate measuring systems deployed under extremely harsh environmental conditions.
The hot spots that the monitoring system searches for are located underneath the irregular surface of the heap in the tank and only display minimal temperature differences of just a few degrees Celsius as compared to the normal surface temperature. The ARTUS cameras, which are mounted on the tank walls underneath the crane systems in the extremely contaminated environment of the waste bunker, reliably and precisely measure the slight differences in temperature. If an alarm is triggered, the fire is extinguished or the crane operator is provided with detailed information about the critical area and can then separate the source of danger from the rest of the waste and immediately transport it to the incineration unit.
In large facilities, a single camera cannot be used due to the geometry or the high resolution required for the imaging and thus multicamera systems are utilized instead.
