Railway Electronics - Technology for travelers’ convenience

In a long lasting cooperation with a leading supplier of railway technology m-u-t develops and produces components for mobile water management systems. These projects contain the whole control mechanisms of multiple sanitary facilities such as toilets, washbasins and showers in two-storied railways.

The given task

The handling of fresh water and grey water in trains and planes has to be optimized for improvements on the safety and comfort standards. Buttons, displays and control systems have to be prepared for customer specific look for railways and airlines worldwide. A flexible system was required to handle different types of sensors and actuators. Everything needs a rugged design and high reliability for the realization of long MTBF times.

The solution

Backbone for the complex solution is a CAN bus network for ease of cabling in complex applications that is installed in railways all over the world right now. The systems is based on embedded µ-controllers from 8 to 32 bit, what can be programmed in "C" or PLC-style.

The system can be equipped with optical sensors installed in basins and tanks.
